Colin says: Jellyfish as seen in Walney Channel.
Colin says: The Lion's Mane jellyfish. Maximum diameter: 50 cm, but in Arctic waters examples of about 2m have been observed. These examples photographed from the channelside walk were around 25-30cm in diameter. The Lion's mane jellyfish has pronounced red or yellow colouring. It has great number of long stinging tentacles, that hang down from the underside of the umbrella. The four mouth arms that also hang from the umbrella's underside are large wand have many wrinkles and creases. The lion's mane is part of the "cnidaria" group of jellyfish.
