DL says: These are flooded gravel extraction pits. Salt was later extracted from this site by drilling deep holes (up to several hundred feet) then pumping down hot water which dissolved the salt. The resulting brine was then pumped out (the brine wells were just south of Biggar Village) and the water evaporated leaving the salt behind. It was exported via the pier at the south end.
DL says: Salt wasn't extracted from this site, only sand and gravel. As previously stated, the salt was extracted near Biggar Village.
