Colin says: The White House at North Scale. Does anyone know anything of it's history?
Colin says: This just in via e-mail - curtesy of Jacqui and Michael. Hi! Noticed a picture of our house "the White House" on your site! Original name was "The croft" and is now "Keral House". Built around 1860 at the same time, and by the same developers that built "The Bankfield Hotel" which stood directly opposite. The first building of the two to be constructed was to gain the hotel licence, The Croft lost and became a private dwelling I presume. Home to the large Benson family for many years, infact we had visitors from overseas last year enquiring about their family's connections with the house! The steep long drive I believe was once used to pull small boats on ropes out of the water. There are also a couple of moorings with the house but unfortunately we don't have a boat. Interestingly, one of the previous owners of the house was responsible for building the two stone semi's at the top of Teasdale Road. Croft Kennels operated from next door for a number of years, on the land which is now Chapel Fields estate. Enough of my blurb on my favourite subject - my house! I wish you'd waited until I had finished painting the bottom wall before you took the picture!
