Do not feel at all embarrassed about this as it happens to everyone, all the time. Simply keep the tow as short as possible (to avoid it getting caught in the propeller) and you'll be fine. Even bits of stout string can be used as a tow rope since it is a scientific fact that once in water stuff weighs far less than it would on land.
