Colin says: This WW2 fire watcher's post can be found on Furness Golf Course and is based on the Vickers-Armstrong "Consol" design. When in use it would have had a door, and the occupier would have sat inside at a small desk and peered out of the horizontal slits to perform his duties. Such fire-watchers posts often had a field telephone through which incidents would have been reported more rapidly then on foot.
