Colin says: The various ponds in the northern reserve are the result of sand and gravel extraction in the early part of the twentieth century. This particular pond lays just outside the nature reserve and is well stocked with fish - making it a popular venue for local anglers.
Hougenai says: The sand and gravel pits you show in your photo's are almost exclusively post 1964.
