Colin says: The slag heap on the Barrow side of the channel used to glow red in the dark when the ironworks were at their peak.
DL says: Imagine the slag bank twice as high - for that's what it was only 20 years ago. Anyone who had not seen this view for over 20 years would not recognise it now. A reduced and landscaped slag bank, Furness Business Park, Furness College, the Dock Museum, and Channelside now replace a car scrap yard and industrial dereliction.
